Becoming More Conscious
For the last few years, I have been practicing asking myself, “what is this person/experience reflecting back to me about myself?”
This way of doing shadow work is something I plan on continuing since the results have been transformative.
For example, through an interaction with someone I met, I became aware of a vibration I was unconsciously exuding that came from a place of fear and was able to address that unhealed wound within me at the root of it. Thus shifting the way I interact with others and the way others interact with me.
Our shadow self is a combination of the aspects that we have rejected, denied, suppressed, or disowned within ourself. Don’t let the word ‘shadow’ scare you, we can have positive traits that we rejected within ourselves as well.
When we are unaware of these parts of us, they have control over us in certain ways and leak out in the ways we express ourselves and act. Other people may see it, but we do not until we become aware of it.
‘Shadow work’ is the process by which we work to uncover and become aware of these aspects.
Some of the methods and techniques that have profoundly helped me become aware of these parts of me are:
Life & Spirit Activation (this was like turning on the light [awareness] in the basement of my mind [subconscious] and I was able to see outdated patterns of thinking and the choices I actually had around me)
Family Constellations Therapy
Journaling/ self-reflection (sometimes while using journal prompts)
Divination tools such as angel oracle card
Meditation
Working with life/spiritual coaches and therapists
Some of the benefits I have seen in my life from doing this type of inner work:
More control over my choices. (Conscious choice vs automatic response to external experiences from subconscious programming)
Increased emotional intelligence.
Inner transformation which then becomes transformation in my outer reality.
With more awareness of self, I am able to see and understand others on a deeper level.
